The 7 Best Driving Careers

If you love driving your car, you’ve probably thought about how you can turn your love of driving into a career. Here are seven of the best driving and car-adjacent careers you might want to consider:

Stunt Driver

Ever wished you could be behind the wheel during your favorite chase scenes in an action movie? Becoming a stunt driver could help you do just that. Find a good stunt driving school in your area and look into enrollment. Not only will that give you somewhere to learn the skills you need to become a good and safe stunt driver, but it will provide you with somewhere to practice those skills. These schools are great for networking, too, which is essential to a successful career in Hollywood.

Bus Driver

If you love driving and love working with kids but don’t have the schooling to become a teacher, becoming a bus driver can be the next best thing. Most school bus drivers don’t need to have degrees — and most counties are constantly in need of skilled bus drivers.

If you can’t stand kids but like the idea of driving a bus, becoming a city bus driver might be another option to consider.

Chauffer

If you want to drive all those ritzy cars you’d never be able to afford otherwise, look into becoming a chauffeur or personal driver. You’ll likely be driving basic cars most of the time, so all you need is a driver’s license. In some states, you may also be required to obtain a chauffeur’s license, and if you’re driving a vehicle that can carry more than 16 passengers, you will also need to obtain a CDL.

Heavy Transportation

People aren’t the only things that need to be hauled from place to place. If you have a CDL or are working toward obtaining one, heavy transportation can be a great option for you. These drivers are the ones you see on the highway with trucks marked “Oversized Load” — hauling heavy equipment from job site to job site. An average heavy transportation driver makes easily over $40,000 a year, so it’s a fairly lucrative driving job as well!

Delivery Driver

FedEx, DHL, UPS and the Postal Service are constantly looking for new drivers to deliver packages in areas across the country. While you do have to pass a Department of Transportation physical, you don’t need to have a CDL to be a delivery driver, and it can be a great way to spend time behind the wheel while making a living.

Pet Taxi Driver

If you love animals, this can be a great way to make some money in your car — as long as you don’t mind a bit of dog or cat hair on the upholstery. Pet taxis give people without a car a way to get to and from various places, such as the airport or the vet for checkups — in some cities, a round-trip could make you more than $100.

Tow Truck Driver

This driving job requires a bit of extra training, but it can be a great way to make money while driving.  Plus, you’ll be a hero to everyone you rescue from the side of the road after a tire blows out or their engine dies. There’s no education requirement to become a tow truck driver, and most of your training will be done on the job.

You can have your cake and eat it, too, if you love to drive but want to make money while doing it. This is just a small sample of the potential careers out there for someone who loves spending time behind the wheel.
