Rolls-Royce plans to recreate the 1913 Alpine Trial with a total of 40 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts participating in the grueling endurance rally, some over 100 years old.
Heading the preparations is P&A Wood, a Rolls-Royce distributor and restoration coachworks in Essex. Since its founding in 1967, P&A Woods has won over 100 concourse awards from around the globe for their display and restoration work.
“P&A Wood plays a vital role in preserving the marque’s rich history whilst contributing significantly to the contemporary Rolls-Royce success story,” said James Crichton, Regional Director, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Europe. He added: “Investment in a new dedicated Rolls-Royce showroom space is testament to a shared commitment to long-term sustainable growth and providing a sales and aftersales experience befitting the world’s leading super-luxury marque.”
Starting on June 14th, the 40 Silver Ghosts will leave Vienna and drive through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy, returning on June 29th. The first Alpine Trial was held in 1913 and created the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost’s reputation for reliability and one news account of the event established the car’s nickname, “Best Car in the World.”
The route includes more than 1,800 miles of roads, passing through some of the most challenging mountain passes in Europe.
Among the 40 participants will be the original 1913 Silver Ghost that traveled the route a hundred years ago, along with models from various years up to the present, including a special 2013 Alpine Trial Centenary Ghost with Bespoke touches and a custom paint scheme (above, left).
