IndyCar Driver Justin Wilson Dies of Head Injuries From Crash

It is with sadness that we bring the news that Justin Wilson, one of the best Indy drivers in the paddock, died after receiving head injuries from debris in a crash at Pocono Raceway . Another car, driven by Sage Karam, was involved in an incident that sent its nosecone flying, striking Wilson in the head.

The Andretti Autosport driver was attended to almost immediately by track paramedics and then rushed to the hospital. He was comatose on arrival. He succumbed to those injuries. Justin leaves behind wife Julia and two young daughters. He was only 37 years of age.

His family issued a statement as Indy teams and friends poured on their love and support.

With deep sadness, the parents of Justin Wilson, Keith and Lynne, his wife Julia, and his brother Stefan share the news that Justin passed away today [Monday, August 24] after succumbing to his injuries suffered during the Verizon IndyCar event at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, August 23.

 

Just was a loving father and devoted husband, as well as a highly competitive racing driver who was respected by his peers.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at the Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital, Pocono Raceway, Andretti Autosport, and the Verizon IndyCar Series as well as the entire racing community for the amazing outpouring of support from fans around the world.

 

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wilson Children’s Fund care of INDYCAR.
