Ford is issuing a safety recall for 12,300 2015 F-150 pickup trucks in North America for an improper rivet that could result in potential loss of steering control. The issue is in the upper I-shaft which was riveted incorrectly on some trucks, resulting in potential separation.
The affected vehicles include F-150s built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant from March 19, 2015 to March 21 and some F-150s built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from March 21 to March 30, 2015. Ford estimates that about 12,328 vehicles are likely affected, most of which are in the United States, but less than half of which have been sold to customers. About 5,606 F-150s affected by the recall are in customers’ hands, the rest being in transit to or on showroom floors in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ford says they are not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this recall, but there has been at least one report of an incident in which steering control was lost. Ford dealerships are prepared to inspect and replace parts related to this recall if necessary.
