This is a quick roundup of what’s happened in automotive for the week of October 6 through October 12, 2024.

Hyundai, Waymo Enter Multi-Year Partnership for Autonomous Driving
Hyundai and Waymo have entered a strategic partnership, integrating Waymo’s autonomous driving systems into Hyundai vehicles. The first phase will include Ioniq 5 SUV models, which will be added to Waymo’s fleet over time.  

2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV Offers Up to 492 Miles of Range
The Silverado EV will launch later in 2024 with three trim levels, added potential range (via Max Range), and a starting MSRP of $57,095 (after destination fees). The Max Range truck begins at $77,795.  

Nissan Joins ChargeScape Nissan has entered into an agreement to invest in the ChargeScape joint venture with BMW, Ford, and Honda. Nissan will become a 25 percent investor in the JV and will roll out ChargeScape services to EV drivers in the U.S. and Canada.  

SEMA, NTEA File Lawsuit To Stop CARB’s ACF Truck Mandates
The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and The Work Truck Association (NTEA) have filed suit in the U.S. District Court’s Eastern District of California to oppose the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Advanced Clean Fleet (ACF) mandates. Citing the CARB mandate for zero-emissions vehicles in interstate commerce.

SAE International Releases J3400 EV Coupler (NACS) Recommended Practices
SAE International has released its J3400 standards for recommended practices with the North American Charging System (NACS) from Tesla. The framework establishes requirements for North American NACS plugs.

UP.FIT Deploys First Tesla Cybertruck for Police Department Use
Unplugged Performance’s UP.FIT outfitter division has created a Tesla Cybertruck specifically geared towards police department use. The truck will begin use by the Irvine Police Department in California.

McLaren W1 Supercar Introduced as F1 and P1 Successor
McLaren has introduced its new W1 supercar with a V8 hybrid powertrain producing 1,258 bhp combined. The V8 engine is responsible for 916 of that and revs to 9,200 rpm.

Volkswagen Introduces Tayron PHEV in Europe
VW has unveiled the new Tayron SUV for European sales. The SUV is a 5-7 seat model with a total of seven drive system options, including two plug-in hybrid options. The PHEV models will have ranges of over 100km per charge. A U.S. version, under the Tiguan moniker, will be announced soon.

Jeep Previews Next-Generation Compass Model
Jeep has released preview images of the next-generation Compass model.

GM Offering New Energy Storage Options for EV Owners
General Motors Energy division is expanding its portfolio with the GM Energy PowerBank. This stationary storage product gives electric vehicle owners the option to store and transfer energy from the grid and with solar power equipment.

Hennessey Drops 1,005 HP Cadillac Escalade-V
Hennessey has engineered a 6,200-pound, three-row SUV with supercar acceleration. The H1000 Escalade-V boasts 1,005 horsepower and 882 pound-feet of torque. 100 units to be made.

Ford Adds Free Wheeling Package to Bronco
Ford has added a new Free Wheeling appearance package to the Bronco, bringing nostalgic looks to the SUV. A reminder of the Free Wheeling trucks, vans, and SUVs of the 1970s and 1980s.

New Acura ADX Previous New Features and a New Model for Acura Brand
Acura has introduced the all-new 2025 ADX as a new entry-level model for the brand. The premium compact SUV will make its North American debut later this year.
