The Stelvio was introduced in 2018 and saw some styling upgrades a couple of years ago. Now the most beautiful of small crossover-SUVs gets a couple of new trim levels, an upgraded instrument cluster, and a new limited-slip differential.
Aimed towards sporty driving and Italian flair, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is both engaging and beautiful. It’s not as luxurious as some rivals whose emphasis is not on sport, though, so those looking for that will not find it here. Alfa, instead, is more known for stunning looks and driver engagement.
New this year is a Competizione trim level for the standard 2.0L model and a 100th Anniversary option for the Quadrifoglio trims.
The Competizione trim fits underneath the Quadrifoglio as the top trim level for the standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine. That 2.0-liter powerplant outputs 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. Which is more than adequate for the sports feel of the Stelvio. The Quadrifoglio trim swaps that for a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that outputs 505 horsepower; should that be more important to you. Both engines mate with an eight-speed automatic with all-wheel drive standard in all but the base model Stelvio.
The 2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Competizione is now the top trim level for the SUV, adding 21-inch black wheels, a mechanical limited-slip rear differential, adaptive suspension, sport seating (with leather), a beautiful Harman Kardon sound system, and added leather to dashboard and door panels. This package is expensive, but offers the pinnacle of Alfa Romeo.
We drove the new Competizione and were impressed with its upgrades. Pricing, as we had it, was around $65,000. We’d like to see more comfort for that price, but the sporty nature of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio makes that a tradeoff. The competition seating and beautiful leather, though, are great additions to this crossover.
And the drive! Oh that drive quality. If nothing else is true in automotive, the Italians are definitely driving engagement and happiness experts. Everything about driving the Stelvio is masterful. Torque vectoring for takeoffs, when cornering, and on wet roads is always on top of things. This small SUV handles like a sports sedan.
For those looking beyond luxury and who need maximum engagement in a utility style, the 2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a beautiful match. It remains one of our favorites.
