The 707-horsepower monster that is the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT HEMI Hellcat (aka Challenger Hellcat) has received it’s Environmental Protection Agency fuel efficiency ratings. And they’re surprisingly good.
The monstrous 6.2-liter supercharged V8 in the Challenger Hellcat contributes a relatively fuel-sipping 22 mpg on the highway, thanks in no small part to the eight-speed automatic transmission the car sports. A six-speed manual transmission still has a good rating at 21 mpg on the highway. For reference, the 2015 Subaru WRX STi with six-speed manual returns about 23 mpg and weighs about 1,000 pounds less.
“The new 2015 Dodge Challenger is the perfect street / strip muscle car,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO – Dodge and SRT Brands. “As the fastest muscle car ever, the Challenger Hellcat can run 10-second ETs at the track, and then get 22 miles per gallon on the drive home. With a starting price of $59,995, there’s nothing else that even comes close.”
Just to rub it in, Dodge also mentions some of the “competition” for the 2015 Challenger Hellcat and their respective MPG ratings:
Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, $425,845, 700 hp, 18 mpg
Aston Martin Vanquish, $287,820, 576 hp, 18 mpg
Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG GT, $221,580, 583 hp, 19 mpg
We won’t get into the vast differences between those three cars and the Challenger. However, you can see the awesome power this muscle car delivers on the dragstrip. On Jay Leno’s Garage the former “Tonight Show” host got to test drive a Dodge Challenger Hellcat before anyone else.
Still, even with the ridiculous comparison, it’s impressive that the massive Challenger Hellcat with its huge-displacement engine achieves 22 mpg. We’ll have to get a loaner to double check this. 🙂
