There is a certain sense of satisfaction that some people get from driving on long, picturesque roads. It’s hard to explain in writing, but when you do it for real, you will know just what I mean!
Going on a nice long road trip is a great way to escape the monotony of life. You can leave all your troubles behind, and put yourself in a different frame of mind. If you love driving, you will doubtless have traversed on many a road.
But have you ever wondered where the best roads in the world are? Before you plan the “ultimate” road trip, check out these five awesome roads that you need to drive on at least once in your life!
1. Route 66 (United States)
The “Mecca” for all car enthusiasts has to be Route 66 in the United States. It was one of the first highways to built under the original US highway system, and got unveiled back in 1926.
It spans over 2,400 miles from Santa Monica, California to Chicago, Illinois. These days, Route 66 is just a series of interstate highways. But it has now a “historic” route by most states, with some states adding Route 66 signs along the original stretches of the highway.
2. A18 Snaefell Mountain Road (Isle of Man)
For those of you that don’t know, the Isle of Man is a small island located in the Irish Sea. Do you live in Great Britain or Northern Ireland? If so, you will doubtless have heard of the Isle of Man TT motorcycle that takes place each year.
When the island isn’t full of motorcycle enthusiasts, one can enjoy a spirited drive through the Snaefell mountain road.
3. Nürburgring (Germany)
If you live somewhere in Europe, you and your car have to make a pilgrimage to the Nürburgring in Germany!
Jake from http://www.sunnyhillmotors.co.uk was telling me about how it features a Grand Prix racing track. The longer and original “northern loop” from the 1920s is used by car enthusiasts to take their cars to their limits.
There is no speed limit at the Nürburgring.
4. Davos To Stelvio Road (Switzerland and Italy)
If you love the idea of driving around hairpin bends, you need to drive on the Davos to Stelvio road!
There are sixty hairpin turns in total, and the road is around 90 miles long. It links Switzerland with Italy and is often used by the motoring press when doing car reviews.
5. E6 (Norway)
If you want a road that will test your endurance and skill, the E6 in Norway is the best road for the job! It spans a whopping 1,295 miles and starts from Norway’s capital, Oslo.
The end of the road happens to be in the Arctic Circle at Nordkapp, right at the top of Europe! Good luck with that one!
