Chrysler has announced that a special edition, limited production Viper will be coming in the third quarter of this year – a Viper made specifically for optimum track-ready performance in a street-legal package.
Based on the 2013 SRT Viper, which debuted last year at New York, the 2014 SRT Viper TA will make its debut in New York this year. Only 33 units will be made and they’ll be marked by an exclusive “TA Orange” paint color.
Using the light makeup and powerful performance of the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) Viper, the Time Attack (TA) adds performance-specific enhancements for road-race coarse driving.
Each SRT Viper TA will be hand-built as a supercar. Suspension tuning for the on-track enthusiast is the beginning, to which is added a set of Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires on ultra-lightweight multi-spoke Sidewinder II wheels. A two-mode Bilstein DampTronic suspension features firmer damping and a smaller spread between modes than on standard Viper GTS models.
The SRT’s standard aluminum X-brace for the engine compartment is replaced with one made of carbon fiber, which not only lightens the weight and increases stiffness, but matches the carbon fiber hood in look and feel. This keeps the torsional rigidity of the SRT Viper TA at fifty percent over the 2012 model.
Brake calipers on the TA are still from Brembo, but are in a black anodized finish with a TA orange Viper logo at center. The paint scheme of the car itself includes TA logos behind each of the front wheels and a black Stryker logo on the front fascia. The paint covers an advanced aerodynamic package that includes carbon fiber front splitters and rear spoiler as well as rear applique to enhance rear width proportions.
The same all-aluminum 8.4-liter V10 overhead valve engine from the SRT is in the SRT Viper TA, putting out 640 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque – more than any other naturally aspirated sports car in the world.
Inside, the interior is identical to the SRT Viper, including the ballistic fabric racing seats from Sabelt and the accommodation of 3- or 6-point harnesses. Unique orange accent stitching marks the interior of the SRT Viper TA from its SRT brothers.
