The BMW X5 is one of the most-popular luxury 4×4 vehicles that you can buy, and because BMW builds them, you will doubtless be aware of how reliable your X5 is!
Of course, whilst the BMW X5 can do many things, the one thing it cannot do is wash itself. A lot of X5 owners have trouble washing their vehicles themselves because the X5 is obviously quite a tall vehicle. Things you need
Before you get stuck in, there are a few tools that you will need to give your BMW X5 the showroom shine it deserves. They are as follows:
- Pressure washer with shampoo bottle and brush attachments;
- Alloy wheel brush;
- Alloy wheel cleaner;
- Car shampoo;
- Leather chamois;
- One or two-step ladder;
- Microfibre cloths;
- Upholstery cleaner.
Rinsing
The first thing you need to do is rinse your car. The reason this is important is because it helps to shift any dirt and debris from your X5’s bodywork. Make sure that you use your pressure washer close to your X5, but not too close that it could damage anything.
Be sure to use your pressure washer on your alloy wheels, to get rid of most of the brake dust lining the surface.
Alloy cleaning
The next stage is to clean your alloy wheels. Chris from Saxton 4×4 always recommends cleaning your X5’s alloy wheels first.
If you spend a lot of time cleaning the bodywork of the car, any dirt and debris from the alloy wheels blasted by your pressure washer will make it dirty again, whereas it’s easier to rinse the alloys again after cleaning your bodywork.
Use your alloy wheel cleaner and direct the spray both on the surface of the wheels and in between the spokes. You will need to crouch to do this job properly as you will miss some bits otherwise!
Rinse the alloy wheel cleaner off after a couple of minutes, spray some more and then use your brush to shift any debris and dirt that refuses to come off. Rinse again, and your alloy wheels should now be spotless!
Bodywork
Now that your wheels are clean, you need to rinse your bodywork again (including the wheels) to get rid of any particles that might scratch your paintwork if moved by a brush.
Once the rinsing has been done, spray some car shampoo all over your X5. Some people prefer to use snow foam, but personally I don’t think it’s worth the extra expense. Next, use your pressure washer with the brush attachment to give the bodywork a good scrub. Finally, rinse everything and dry with your leather chamois!
Interior
In order to give your BMW X5’s interior that new look, you will need to thoroughly vacuum the carpets and seats before using upholstery cleaner on any dirty areas. The microfibre cloths will help with this job.
