For more than 20 years, Mecum Auctions, the world’s largest collector car auction company, has regularly held auctions at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Mo. That history continues March 11-12 as an estimated 700 American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, Hot Rods, Resto Mods and more from an estimated 20 surrounding states cross the auction block. Collector car enthusiasts will be joined in downtown Kansas City by thousands of college hoops fans attending the Big 12 Conference tournament also in downtown Kansas City.
Among the main attractions consigned for the Mecum Kansas City auction will be a 1968 Shelby GT500KR Fastback (Lot S106) with a matching-number 428 CI Cobra Jet Engine and a factory four-speed transmission. Recently restored, the car has a black exterior and black interior. Another feature consignment is a 1970 Pontiac GTO Convertible (Lot S105), one of only 2,173 400/350 HP GTO convertibles with an automatic transmission. The car remained in the possession of the original owner until 2005 before it underwent a frame-off restoration. Also consigned are 10 low-mileage Chevrolet Camaros from the Matt Wagoner Collection including a 2012 Chevrolet Callaway Camaro 45th Anniversary (Lot S99) that is just one of five produced and with 5,043 actual miles and a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SVE Yenko (Lot S95) with just 64 actual miles that is number 16 of 26 built to date by SVE and features a hand-built 427/700 HP LS engine with aluminum blocks and heads.
The auction is open to buyers, sellers and spectators with general admission tickets available at the gate for $30 per person per day or $40 for a two-day pass; children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission. Bidder registration is $100 in advance and $200 at the auction and includes admission for two for both auction days. Doors open daily at 8 a.m. with the auction beginning at 8:30 a.m. with Road Art and cars at 10 a.m. NBC Sports Network will broadcast nine hours of auction coverage, including live coverage on Saturday, March 12 from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; a live stream of the entire auction will be presented at Mecum.com.
