A Formula E race car, called the Spark-Renault SRT_01E, has just completed its test debut in France. The video of the electric race car was released by the FIA Formula Youtube channel today. The zero emission race car lapped the race circuit over 40 times in two days with the initial task of checking all systems were functioning correctly.
“I can assure all the drivers will have a lot of fun with this car – it has quite a lot of grip and the electric motor produces huge torque.” said Lucas Di Grassi about the Formula E race car.
The SRT_01E has been designed and built by the French based company, Spark Racing Technology. In addition there is a consortium of leading manufacturers in racing industry that will compete in the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship, which is the world’s first global electric race series set to start in September 2014. The electric raee car chassis has been constructed by Dallara, with McLaren Electronics Systems providing the electric motor, gearbox and electronics, Williams Advanced Engineering has provided the batteries, Renault helped with the overall systems integration on the SRT_01E and Michelin outfitted the car with tires. (Honestly who else would you get for tires?)
