Lexus has debuted its 2016 RX series of crossovers. The best-selling model in the Lexus lineup and accounting for 3 of every 10 sales of Lexus vehicles, the RX is important to the brand. The 2016 Lexus RX features a completely new interior, a more aggressive body style, and debuts the new Lexus Safety System+.
“With the new Lexus Safety System+, we offer drivers an added level of occupant safety in a conveniently bundled package that leverages some of the latest accident prevention technology. We certainly expect the proliferation of these features to continue throughout the luxury vehicle market and our Lexus lineup as the industry remains steadfast in the pursuit of enhanced vehicle safety,” said Jeff Bracken, Group Vice President and General Manager Lexus Division.
Powerplants have also been upgraded for the 2016 RX 350. The 3.5-liter V6 has been tuned to produce 300 horsepower through a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The same engine is in the RX 450h, but detuned as an Atkinson cycle, then the electric motor for the hybrid system is added, boosting output back up to 300 hp to match the gasoline-only model.
Finally, Lexus says that they’ve “fortified” the RX’s chassis to boost on-road dynamics for better straight-line stability and control in curves. This is bolstered by added stiffness in the body structure, which also reduces road noise in the cabin.
Finally, the F-Sport package will become available for both the RX 350 and 450h, with further enhancements for the new model year to include new 20-inch alloy wheels with a graphite finish.
