We were stunned to find out that War’ds 10 Best Engines choices for 2015 included the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell‘s fuel cell stack. Another winner on that list was the 127 kW electric motor in the BMW i3 electric car. Wow, eat that Tesla.
Out of 37 new or improved powertrain considerations for the year, two of the winners in 2015 for the Ward’s 10 Best Engines choices were not engines, but alternatives to them. That’s amazing. Good work on the choice, Ward’s, it’s nice to see engineers with open minds.
Turning back to the list, we also see some power plants of a more conventional sort that we ourselves also think deserved the accolade. The 6.2L V8 in the new Corvette Stingray, for example, is amazing. As is the 1.0L three-cylinder from Ford in the new Fiesta and the 3.0L turbodiesel in the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.
Just to name a few. You can see the full Ward’s 10 Best Engines list here.
