MG is unveiling an electric vehicle (EV) called the EV Concept.
Is the European market ready?
Strangely enough, Europe, the continent known for small cars hasn’t embraced EVs as much as expected. Even stranger, plug-in hybrids (PHEV) have fared much better than their pure electric cousins. While this can be explained by the amount of available small cars performing very well, and diesel’s broad use, famous English carmaker MG is giving a small EV a try.
Aptly named the EV Dynamo concept, MG hopes to the public’s imagination, as well as gauge the demand for pure electric cars. So far, not much is known short of the anticipated performance.
MG sparks the Dynamo
On display in London, the Dynamo is 11.7 ft (3,569 mm) long, weighs in at 2,380 lb (1,080 kg) and boasts a modest range of 50 miles (80 km). The electric motor puts out 52 Kw (70 hp) with 114 lb. ft. (155 Nm) of torque, and a 0 to 35 MPH (50 km/h) in 5.3 seconds. Not much is known from its battery pack, save that an 80% charge can be achieved in 30 minutes and 100% charge in 6 hours, which leads us to believe anywhere from 13 to 16 kW.
Judging by the design, the Dynamo is very European and will have no problems finding its place in Japan.
