The 10 Best Green Cars of 2014 have been announced by Kelley Blue Book. The list is a decent one and we here at CarNewsCafe largely agree with it, though we might have changed the ranking on a few of the cars a bit.
KBB’s list reads:
#1 – BMW i3
#2 – Nissan LEAF
#3 – Toyota Prius
#4 – Honda Accord Hybrid
#5 – Tesla Model S
#6 – Chevrolet Volt
#7 – Ford C-Max Hybrid
#8 – Honda Civic CNG
#9 – Lexus ES 300h
#10 – Volkswagen Jetta TDI
To their credit, KBB doesn’t just rank the cars by EPA ratings and price tag, but also takes into account the production methods and recyclability of the cars. Obviously, the list’s 1-10 nature lends most people to believe it’s a ranking, but the reality is, with the varying capabilities and needs of the vehicles on the list, consumers should use a lot of salt when they consider the ranks. A Nissan LEAF, for example, is likely far more realistic in terms of green driving and attainability for most consumers than is, say, the top-ranked BMW i3; whereas the Volkswagen Jetta TDI may be more well-suited for those with longer distances to travel who don’t have a pocketbook capable of getting them into a Tesla Model S.
