Review: 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE is Tops in 2-Door Luxury

We drove the CLE 450 and highly recommend its six cylinders of power.

The CLE is brand new for 2024, replacing the C-Class and E-Class coupe and convertible models. The CLE aims to do what those four-door models did, and more. Namely to be an engaging two-door that is high on luxury fitment.

The 2024 CLE is a great-looking coupe with a smooth set of body lines and classy appeal. Its interior is also very well done, with all of the excellence Mercedes is known for and some seriously upscale feel. Technology is also at the fore, with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 11.9-inch center screen along with Mercedes’ latest MBUX system for easy natural voice control.

Our only beef with the Mercedes-Benz lineup in general, including this CLE, is that some staples like adaptive cruise control are not standard equipment. Which seems dumb given that all of the parts required for it are in place. Same with blind-spot warnings and lane centering. This just seems like a play to charge more for some software that should be included. Especially with an already robust $60,000 base price.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE comes in three options: CLE 300, CLE 450, and the AMG 53. The 300 is the base model, featuring an okay four-cylinder turbo with decent power output. Most will likely jump up to the 450 though, as the much quicker and more responsive turbo inline-six is worth the upgrade. The AMG model will appeal to those with a lot of money to spend and who must have the adaptive dampers and faster engine.

We drove the CLE 450 and highly recommend its six cylinders of power. It’s smooth, quiet, and highly responsive. The smooth ride quality and quick steering are high points in this car, but the interior luxury and the superior daily drive quality of the car are its high points.

The leap from the base CLE 300 to the CLE 450 is almost $10,000, but after looking at options for the 300 that are likely “must haves” for those buying, the jump is far less than that. Our test model rang in at about $69,400 after some options were added. We feel that for this luxury segment, that price tag was worth it in the CLE. It’s a very well done coupe.
