Nothing ruins your day more than seeing a big ‘ole scratch in your car’s window. You’ve done your best to ensure that you keep your car safe when on the road, but there’s nothing preventing a scratch from randomly appearing one day. But all is not lost if you’ve found that this happened to you! You can easily get rid of these scratches on your car’s window and make them look brand new again. All you need to do is follow the following instructions and you windows are going to be shining like never before. Keep reading to learn some more about how to do just that.
-
Step 1 – Clean up the scratch a bit
First off, you’re going to want to clean off the window thoroughly before trying to deal with the scratch. Use a high-quality glass cleaner and wipe it away with a microfiber cloth. Make sure that you get rid of all of that dirt and grime that might be stuck to the window. If you leave any of this on the window, it can make repairing the scratch even more difficult.
-
Step 2 – Go for toothpaste and baking soda
Next up, you’re going to be making the cleaning mixture that will work on that scratch. The mixture is made with a quarter of toothpaste and a teaspoon of baking soda. Make sure to mix it all together well so everything seems to be one mixture. Rub that mixture into the scratch on the glass and then leave it there for about five minutes. You want to be sure not to be too rough when applying the mixture – this could cause the scratch to get even worse. Just apply the mixture in gentle, circular motions and leave it there for that five minute period.
-
Step 3 – Buff up that scratch
Next, you’re going to want to take a soft cloth after those five minutes are up to buff up the scratch a bit. Use medium pressure and rub the scratch until it’s worked out by the mixture and the motions of your cloth. If you’re having some trouble with the scratch, just keep working at it until you see results. You can even add some more of the mixture if you’re having extra difficulty.
-
Step 4 – Clean off that solution
For the next step, it’s just like the first step. Use some glass cleaner to clean off the rest of the mixture that’s still on the car window. After this step, if you still find yourself with a scratch, then it’s time to move onto the next steps that will definitely get that scratch off. If you don’t want to try another method, then you can also head to an auto shop that sells Mustang parts and accessories to see if they have any advice for getting these scratches off of your Mustang windows. Or any other car for that matter!
-
Step 5 – The jewelers rouge treatment
This next mixture is a bit more intense than the baking soda and toothpaste mixture. Mix together a tablespoon of water, tablespoon of jewelers rouge, and a tablespoon of glycerin. Mix these ingredients together until it is a consistent color and texture.
-
Step 6 – Apply the treatment
Use the same method for applying the treatment as when you tried the baking soda and toothpaste mixture. Again, make sure you don’t use too much pressure on the glass as you could cause the scratch to expand or even crack the glass.
-
Step 7 – Clean it again
Lastly, clean off the jewelers rouge treatment mixture and see if that has helped the scratch at all. If you are still left with a scratch, you can take your car into the auto shop to see if they can help you further.
Make sure to keep these steps in mind when you are trying to get those annoying scratches out of your car windows. Nothing is more unsightly than tons of scratches on your windows, plus these can lead to even further problems, such as cracked windows. Make sure to get them fixed ASAP and your wallet and car are going to thank you!
