Almost 30 years ago on March 25th, 1984, a young Brazilian driver named Ayrton Senna made his F1 racing debut with the Toleman racing team. Senna’s debut was at the Brazilian Grand Prix at the Jacarepaguá Circuit in Rio de Janeiro, the driver’s home country.
While Ayrton Senna didn’t finish the Brazilian Grand Prix due to an issue with the turbocharger on his F1 car, it was still an important moment in auto racing history. Senna had fought in Formula Ford and the British F3 series for a while to earn a spot on as an F1 driver and he would go on to become what many consider to be the greatest Formula 1 driver in history.
To honor and celebrate Ayrton Senna’s birthday the Ayrton Senna Institute, a non-profit organization named in the driver’s honor, has released a short video to commemorate mark the occasion. In Brazil Senna is not just remembered for eerily accurate and precise driving skills, but the work he did for the people of Brazil.
It’s March 21st and exactly 54 years ago today Ayrton Senna da Silva was born. The memory of his achievements remains strong in people’s minds. 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of his legacy, and Ayrton Senna Institute is preparing a series of tributes and events.
