If you are currently watching and enjoying the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia I’m sure you might have seen some of the ice tracks sports, specifically the Luge and Skeleton. To give you a better idea of how fast you can go in these winter sports in Season 17 of Top Gear they raced a “Skeleton bob”, as James May calls it, against a Mini rally car.
The Skeleton racer was Amy Williams who was the Skeleton Gold Medalist at the 2010 Vancouver games (she represented Great Britain.) She’s the best of the best in terms of Skeleton racing and can hit 70+ mph on her Skeleton sled going down the Lilehamer . What’s mind blowing is that the Top Gear Mini rally car James May is in and Skeleton times are closer than you would think. As each race for roughly 2km.
If you haven’t seen this Top Gear I won’t tell you if Amy Williams or the Mini won but the difference was only 0.31 seconds. Wouldn’t you think car engineers could do better? Just shows how much weight and gravity can do when racing on a Skeleton.
