The Mayor of Vilnius, the capitol of Lithuania, decided that he was tired of cars parking illegally in bike lanes that are clearly marked in green and are meant for people riding bicycles. So Arturas Zuokas, the Mayor of Vilnius, thought he’d take care of the issue himself by crushing an offending parked car with a tank.
Since Lithuania gained independence in 1990 the amount of cars in the country has increased by almost fourfold. This means people are less likely to find a parking space and a lot more likely to get frustrated in traffic jams. The city has tried to encourage riding bikes as a way to alleviate this issue but it seems people still love their cars in Lithuania.
Do you think Arturas Zuokas was right to make an example of this car? Do you respect politicians that take action instead of whining and complaining?
