Toyota is bidding “Happy Trails” to the FJ Cruiser with a special off-road, Trail edition of the SUV. The 2014 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Ultimate Edition (say that several times fast), was unveiled at a press conference held today in Las Vegas at the opening of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show.
The 2014 Trail Teams Ultimate Edition is a commemorative final special edition of the FJ and is being billed as the toughest, most capable FJ ever made, paying tribute to the iconic and long-running vehicle that set standards for offroad performance. When the 2014 model year concludes next fall, the last of the FJ Cruisers will roll off the line.
The 2014 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Ultimate Edition will see a limited run of 2,500 built. It features a race-inspired Toyota Racing Development offroad suspension, specially tuned for the FJ. This suspension includes TRD-spec Bilstein race shocks with increased damping, articulation and high speed stability. Race coil springs raise the front of the FJ to level out its stance to improve approach angles and remote reservoirs on the rear 50mm shocks improve damping fade.
A new front skid plate, made of quarter-inch aluminum plate, is stamped to improve underbody protection and approach angle while the 16-inch bead-lock wheels with BF Goodrich A/T KO tires finish the mobility package. Rock rails and a roof rack complement the unique exterior paint scheme as well.
This unique model says goodbye and “happy trails” to the near half-century of tough performance that the FJ Cruiser has provided. This Trail edition hits dealerships in February.
