Ron Howard‘s new movie, RUSH, chronicling the intense rivalry of the 1976 Formula 1 season opened in movie theaters today. The story of RUSH follows the fight for the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship between James Hunt, played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds), who plays Niki Lauda. In addition the film has a star studded cast that includes Oliva Wilde (Tron: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens), Alexandra Maria Lara, Pierfrancesco Favino, Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), David Calder, and more.
RUSH has been eagerly anticipated by the racing community and gearheads all over the world. Chiefly because it should, hopefully, be a good movie about racing as it is directed and produced by Hollywood legend Ron Howard. There have unfortunately been quite a few bad movies about racing made over the years (cough, Driven, cough) and it doesn’t seem we will have to suffer with another one. (I am not counting documentations like “Senna” but feature films.)
Checkout this RUSH Featurette that was released for the movie back in June. If you noticed I have a top comment for that Youtube video! 🙂
RUSH Featurette
Ron Howard obviously took time and care in developing and adapting the story for the screen with the help of the writer, Peter Morgan, and made great effort to make it authenticate for those knowledgeable about F1 as well. The movie used real Formula 1 cars from the 1976 season to do some of the scenes which most likely had the collector’s quite nervous as the cars were going around the track. It probably added a lot more intensity though, which was well worth it.
Are you going to go see RUSH and experience F1 back in the day this weekend? If you see the movie, let us know whether it is a must see or if we could wait until it comes out on DVD or Netlfix instant view.
