If you are speeding in Dubai or trying to get away from a crime, you better watch out!  The Dubai police force have now added a formidable weapon to their police fleet, a Lamborghini Aventador supercar.  This means nobody is getting away from the Dubai police!

The announcement came via Twitter on the Dubai police Twitter feed @DubaiPoliceHQ.

And there was also this Tweet too;

Last month the Dubai police added Chevy Camaro’s to their fleet and last year a set of Dodge Chargers were added as well.  Also the Dubai Police have confirmed there will be introducing sports cars that are specially tuned for the police fleet to enhance patrolling capabilities

The news of Dubai adding the Lamborghini Aventador supercar to it’s fleet of police vehicles has obviously created a lot of social media buzz.  A new Twitter hashtag, #OnlyinDubai, is now quite popular on the social network.

The Lamborghini Aventador costs roughly just shy of $400,000 and is equipped with a gigantic 6.5 liter V12 engine that has a whopping 700-horsepower.  The Aventador is capable of speeds up to 217 mph, meaning no bad guys will be able to escape.

Most police forces obviously couldn’t afford to buy a supercar but “Only in Dubai” is it possible.  The government is flush with oil money making the purchase of a Lamborghini Aventador, set of Chevy Camaros, Dodge Chargers, and customized sports cars no big deal.

The Dubai police haven’t bought these cars just for the media attention, social media buzz, or just to be flashy though.  According to SkyNews roughly 15% of traffic citations issued in Dubai each day are for driving at speeds in excess of 130mph, police reports released in March showed.  Vehicle deaths in 2012 were 122, with 2,161 injuries, many of which occurred on the Dubai’s notorious Sheikh Zayed highway.

The Dubai police feel to be able to catch these high speed offenders, they need just as fast cars.  In Dubai gas prices are cheaper than drinking water, meaning you don’t need to worry about running down your tank if you are going over 130+ mph.  Wouldn’t that be nice?

The moral of this story?  If you have ever thought about joining the police force, then you better move to Dubai! 🙂
